Brooklyn Area Firefighters Fight Multi-Acre Brush Fire

Brooklyn, Conn. - At approximately 11:22 am on Thursday, February 16th, 2023, the Mortlake Fire Company, along with East Brooklyn, were dispatched for a reported brush fire in the area of 111 Brown Rd.

Mortlake Fire Company’s Deputy Chief Leo Berube tells Quiet Corner Alerts, crews were on the scene of a gas leak in another portion of town (previously reported by Quiet Corner Alerts) when they were dispatched to the brush fire. Two trucks were released from the gas call to respond to the brush fire.

The first apparatus on scene encountered approximately 1 acre of grassland burning with the fire gaining ground and encroaching on a pine stand. Following the initial size up, multiple mutual aid departments were requested for manpower and forestry equipment.

Chief Berube extended his thanks to mutual aid companies, "Nowadays we can't survive without mutual aid companies. This is what mutual aid is all about."

Crews remained on the scene for approximately 90 minutes extinguishing the fire. The final size of the fire is estimated to be approximately 3 acres.

The incident did not result in any injuries or damage to structures.

The Brooklyn Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Agencies that responded, or were dispatched, included the Mortlake Fire Company , East Brooklyn Fire Department , Atwood Hose Fire Company , Danielson Fire Department , @Hampton Fire Company , and the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) .
