Woman Dies After Being Struck by a Vehicle in Killingly

Killingly, Conn. - A Moosup woman has died after being struck by a car on Route 101 Tuesday evening.

At approximately 7:51 pm on Tuesday, December 27th, 2022, the Dayville Fire Company, along with KB Ambulance and a QV Medic, were dispatched to the area of 729 Hartford Pike (Route 101) for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. upon dispatch the Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communication Center (QVEC) determined that the incident met the criteria for a Dispatcher Initiated Auto Launch (DIAL) of Hartford HealthCare's LIFESTAR Air Medical helicopter.

According to the Connecticut State Police (CSP) a Toyota Prius, operated by a Killingly man, was traveling eastbound on rt. 101 when it struck a pedestrian, wearing dark clothing, who was crossing rt. 101. The pedestrian was not utilizing a crosswalk.

A landing zone was established for LIFESTAR in an empty parking lot behind 730 Hartford Pike (Aldi). As the helicopter was approaching the scene EMS crews made the decision to immediately transport the victim by ground to Day Kimball Hospital (Putnam, CT). The LIFESTAR crew diverted to Day Kimball where they assumed patient care and further transported the victim to UMASS Memorial (Worcester, MA). CSP confirmed the woman succumbed to her injuries at UMASS.

This collision remains under investigation and no enforcement action has been taken at this time. Anyone with any information in regards to this collision is asked to call Troop D at 860-779-4900.

Agencies who responded, or were dispatched, included the Dayville Fire Company, Attawaugan Fire Department, KB Ambulance, KB Ambulance's QV Medic, Life Star, and the Connecticut State Police.
