Two Displaced in Evening House Fire in Brooklyn

Brooklyn, Conn.- At approximately 6 pm on Wednesday, November 3rd, the Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications Center received multiple calls for a reported structure fire at 20 Fairway Drive. A 1st alarm assignment was struck for the East Brooklyn Fire Department along with their mutual aid companies.

According to East Brooklyn Fire Chief Brian Pepin, Danielson Fire Departments Engine 161 was the first due apparatus. On arrival, they had a heavy fire in an attached garage with an extension into the home. Danielson crews immediately connected to a nearby fire hydrant and stretched a hose line to the front door of the residence. As additional firefighters arrived on the scene crews made an aggressive offensive attack through the front door of the residence, successfully knocking down a bulk of the fire within approximately fifteen minutes of the fire apparatus arriving on the scene.

Crews spent the next two hours chasing hotspots within the residence and garage. There was one vehicle in the garage that could be seen flaring up as crews cooled it with water during the whole overhaul period.

Firefighters were able to locate four cats in the residence. All four cats were safely put into cat carriers and reunited with the homeowners.

No injuries were reported from the fire.

Two occupants are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The Brooklyn Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.

Agencies that responded included the East Brooklyn Fire Department, Mortlake Fire Company, Atwood Hose Fire Company, Danielson Fire Department, Williamsville Fire Engine Company, South Killingly Fire Department, and Mortlake Ambulance.
