Killingly, Conn.- An accident closed I-395 in both directions for over 2 hours Thursday morning.

Shortly before 9 am Thursday morning, October 20th, the South Killingly Fire Department, along with the Moosup Fire Department and KB Ambulance, were dispatched for a reported vehicle accident in the area of Exit 37 on I-395 Northbound.

According to South Killingly Fire Chief Travis Vandale, the Connecticut State Police were the first on the scene and advised there was heavy entrapment prompting him to request assistance from the Danielson Fire Department and a QV paramedic. As the first fire unit arrived on the scene they reported one passenger vehicle approximately 50 feet off the roadway into a wooded area with heavy entrapment prompting the request for a medical helicopter.

Units worked for approximately two and a half hours to free the victim as the Lifestar crew, KB Ambulance EMTs, and QV Paramedic rendered medical care to the patient during the extrication process. Chief Vandale explained "the patient was entrapped from multiple angles, both sides above and below. All the departments worked very well together to systematically remove the patient from the vehicle to transfer them to Lifestar". Following extrication, Lifestar transported the victim to Umass Hospital in Worcester. No further condition of the victim was available at the time.

Interstate 395 Northbound was shut down for the duration of the incident and the Southbound lanes were briefly shut down to allow for Lifestar to safely land and take off from the highway.

The accident is currently being investigated by the Connecticut State Police

Responding agencies included the South Killingly Fire Department, Dayville Fire Department, Danielson Fire Department, Moosup Fire Department, KB Ambulance, KB Ambulance's QV MEDIC, Lifestar, and the Connecticut State Police.
