Worcester Mass. - A stubborn third alarm fire rapidly spread through a three-decker house at 119 Rodney St on Friday afternoon.

Shortly before 4 pm on Friday, September 16th, a box alarm was struck for the Worcester Fire Department for a reported building fire at 119 Rodney St. As companies responded to the fire, they reported smoke visible in the sky from a distance. The first engine to arrive reported heavy smoke coming from the attic immediately prompting an upgrade to a second alarm.

Companies faced heavy fire on the third floor and in the attic, making immediate search efforts impossible until the fire could be suppressed. As firefighters were able to put water on the 3rd floor fire, hot spots began popping up on the walls and ceiling of the 1st and 2nd floors causing firefighters to battle the fire simultaneously on multiple floors.

A third alarm was struck approximately 30 minutes into the fire bringing in additional companies as firefighters worked to extinguish the stubborn fire in the walls of the structure.

The Red Cross was requested to assist an unknown number of residents.

The fire is being investigated by the Worcester Fire Investigation Unit.
