Serious Accident Closes Portion of Interstate 395 Southbound

by Quiet Corner Alerts on 06-26-2022

Webster Mass. - Shortly before noon on Sunday, June 26th, the Southern Worcester County Communications Center received multiple calls for a single-vehicle rollover Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) on I-395 southbound, in the area of Exit 3, with an occupant ejected from the vehicle. This triggered a still alarm assignment from Webster Fire and EMS and support from multiple Webster Police Cruisers until the Massachusetts State Police could arrive.

While en route, callers began to report the ejected male occupant had a possible penetrating wound, caused by a stick, in his neck. When emergency units arrived on the scene, they discovered the party pressed against the stick with no penetrating injuries. Medical personnel began rapidly triaging patients and reported two (2) priority 1 (highest priority) and one (1) priority 3 (lowest priority) patients. Umass Memorial Life Flight was requested for the ejected occupant and the highway was shut down at Exit 4, by Oxford Police, to allow for the medical helicopter to land directly on the highway near the accident scene. Upon evaluation by Life Flight medical personnel, Webster EMS transported the ejection victim, with a police officer driving, to Hubbard Hospital for further stabilization where they were later transported by Life Flight to UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA. A secondary patient was transported by ground to UMASS Memorial Hospital. It is unclear at this time if the 3rd patient was transported by EMS.

Interstate 395 Southbound remained closed for an extended duration to allow for Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team to conduct their investigation.

Agencies that responded to the incident included the Webster Police Department, Webster Fire Department, Webster EMS, Oxford Police, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team, and UMASS Memorial Life Flight
